My goodness! I thought I had scheduled this post a while ago. But here we go.
In my last post, I mentioned that I looked into other dragon field guides as a bit of market research. I really just ran a quick amazon search; I should pick up one of the guides so I can have it in hand for reference. I'll wait a bit, though. I don't want my dragon designs to be influenced by any of them. In any case, one thing I noted pretty quickly was the beautiful dragon images. That's when I decided each entry in my guide needed a splash page-- i.e. a very pretty/dynamic drawing of the dragon in question.
My art is not the best, but I am improving. When it came to designing the wyvern, the splash page was pretty easy. Here is the sketch of the image I plan to use:
In my fantasy world, the wyvern is not a true dragon type. It is unintelligent, violent, and solitary. It also does not have separate "hands" and wings. It does breathe fire, though.
I'll keep more information for the field guide.
